Andean Opposition allows for opposition to the registration of a trademark in a member country of the Andean Community. In this case, FEDERAL-MOGUL IGNITION COMPANY opposed the registration of the CHAMPION trademark requested by COEXITO S.A.S. in Colombia, based on its prior registration of the same trademark in Ecuador. The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce denied the registration of the trademark in Colombia, thereby protecting the trademark of FEDERAL-MOGUL IGNITION COMPANY in the Andean Community.
