We were proud to announce that our partner, Juan Carlos Uribe, represented Colombia in the Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance (GALA) webinar, a high-level international forum focused on the most relevant legal developments shaping the global advertising industry.
The webinar brought together a distinguished panel of advertising law experts from Mexico, India, Turkey, South Africa, and the United States, offering a truly international perspective on how regulation, technology, and consumer protection have been transforming advertising practices across jurisdictions. The discussion provided valuable insights into the challenges faced by brands, agencies, and legal professionals over the past year, as well as the regulatory trends expected to shape the industry moving forward.
As advertising continued to evolve at an unprecedented pace, legal frameworks were increasingly tested and redefined. One of the central themes of the session was Artificial Intelligence and regulatory priorities, addressing how AI-driven advertising tools, automated decision-making, and content generation had drawn the attention of regulators worldwide. Panelists analyzed emerging compliance standards and enforcement approaches that businesses must consider when implementing AI in their marketing strategies.
Another key topic was privacy issues and so-called “dark patterns”, an area of growing concern for authorities seeking to protect consumers from deceptive or manipulative digital practices. The discussion explored how regulators had identified and sanctioned these practices, as well as their implications for digital advertising, user experience design, and consent mechanisms.
The panel also examined developments in influencer marketing, focusing on transparency obligations, disclosure requirements, and brand liability. In addition, experts addressed recent trends in food and beverage advertising, particularly in relation to public health policies, consumer protection rules, and advertising restrictions aimed at protecting vulnerable audiences.
Juan Carlos Uribe’s participation highlighted Triana, Uribe & Michelsen’s active involvement in global discussions on advertising law and regulatory compliance. His contribution offered insights from the Colombian and regional perspective, strengthening the comparative analysis and reinforcing the importance of cross-border dialogue in an increasingly interconnected advertising ecosystem.
The webinar took place on December 10, 2025, and served as a valuable platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices on the evolving legal landscape of advertising worldwide.
